Snack in the Under 2 Classroom

The children in our Under 2 classroom share snack time each morning and afternoon. They are invited to sit at our child-sized table and chairs, building their social skills, grace and courtesy. Age appropriate dishes and utensils are used to help with self-serving and self-feeding, aiding in the growth of the children’s confidence and abilities. The physical arrangement encourages an older infant’s self-help skills and independence, which contributes to their sense of self. An educator demonstrates the process of serving and feeding oneself, and sits nearby to help anyone who needs assistance. An educator also verbally labels the food and beverages, and talks about events going on in the environment, in order to increase vocabulary and language skills during such an important process in our day.
