Observe what happens when oil pastels are layered over watercolour paint.
What You’ll Need: 1 sheet white drawing paper, tape, oil pastels, 8-colour set watercolour paints, small container, water, paintbrushes
Make It: Tape down the corners of the paper to keep it from moving. Scribble lines and shapes all over the paper with the oil pastels; then dip the brushes in water to dilute the different paints. Cover the oil pastel scribbles with your favourite colours until no white remains. Watch in amazement as the oil pastel lines pop through the watercolour paint.
Below are some pictures of our Under 3 group working on this art project. They thoroughly enjoyed the process as it gave them the opportunity to work on skill sets such as hand-eye coordination, pincer grip, group and social interaction with their peers and teachers. They also loved to look at the final product in which there was a 3D texture difference between the pastel and paint.
