LET’S GET STACKING!

stacked wooden blocks

Our Under 3 Montessori environment supports the need for children’s sensorimotor development by providing a construction area filled with manipulative materials for a variety of construction uses. Building with large wooden blocks makes it easy for a child to manipulate. This also promotes hand and wrist stability as the children learn to place blocks with controlled movements. Activities such as building also prepare children for work in the classroom. Children need to have strength and dexterity in their hands and fingers as well as hand-eye coordination before being able to manipulate a pencil on paper. In addition, building with blocks and connectors also encourages the development of depth perception, spatial awareness, problem solving, concepts of together and apart, as well as literacy.
