Practical Life

Practical life is an important part of our Under 3 Montessori classroom.  It is an area in which the children learn real-life tasks such as scooping, pouring, sweeping, mopping, cooking and taking care of the self and environment.  These activities help with the development of fine motor skills, coordination of both hands working together, and the practice of skills which aid in everyday life.  These activities are opportunities for children to participate and contribute to their community.  Practical life skills allow the toddler to develop motor control, self-confidence, thinking outside the self, empathy for others and a feeling of being productive and belonging to the community.
