Self-Help and Independence

In our Under 2 program, the children learn a variety of self-help and independence skills during meal times. The children practice serving themselves, eating with a spoon, and drinking from an open cup. They clean up after themselves by pushing in their chairs, scraping their food and washing their hands. While practicing these tasks, language as well as grace and courtesy skills are facilitated through labeling and having conversations. Mastering these skills gives children a feeling of accomplishment and autonomy. What an achievement!
