Before entering the yoga room, the children prepare by taking off their socks and shoes. There is a sense of calmness as they enter, stand on a mat and wait for yoga class to begin.
In this yoga class, the children focused on a pose called Cupcake Breath. The yoga teacher modeled and guided the children as they sat cross legged with their hands on their knees. With their eyes closed, the children concentrated on their breathing. They were also asked to imagine that in front of them was a cupcake with a candle. The teacher guided the children to inhale through their nose. As they exhaled, they imagined blowing out the candle. Cupcake Breath helps a child focus on their breathing and in turn bring calm energy.
They also stretched into Tree Pose or Vrikshasana. This pose promotes balance, concentration, and awareness of self.
