Music and Listening Centre

Child playing a xylophone with sheet music
The listening centre in the classroom is set up in a quiet area, where children are able to listen to stories or music using volume-controlled headphones. The listening materials are selected by the teachers to reflect the child’s interests, seasons and favourite authors. These selections range from classical music, echo songs, to the children’s favorite authors. Not only do the children enjoy the listening area, but they immerse themselves by playing a variety of musical instruments and incorporating movement. During the child’s developmental years, lyrics and music can strengthen their gross motor skills through movement; their focus/concentration and memory; as well as expand their vocabulary.
