Nature in the Classroom

Children under 3 exploring nature in the classroom

In the Under 3 community, we encourage the child’s love for and connection with nature. Children want to touch, hold, and care for living things. This connection to nature inspires a sense of wonder. The children participate in a variety of Practical Life activities in the classroom including watering the plants, feeding the fish, arranging flowers, and washing leaves.

“Solicitous care for living things affords satisfaction to one of the most lively instincts of the child’s mind. Nothing is better calculated than this to awaken an attitude of foresight.” -Maria Montessori (1948/2004) “Discovery of the Child”, Aakar Books, p. 92
