In a Casa program, the children learn about the Care of the Environment, which teaches them to take pride and responsibility in the care of their shared classroom space. One of the activities to promote this is caring for plants. Here, the children are watering plants and gently dusting the plant leaves with damp cotton balls. They learn how much water different plants need and that some plants benefit from having their leaves misted with water. When dusting the plants with cotton balls, they practice being very gentle with the delicate leaves. It requires focus and compassion. As the plants grow and flourish, the children take pride in their contribution to their environment.
