Planting

The children of the North Casa Community helped to beautify our playground by planting a variety of flowers in the planters around our outdoor space. The children worked together to dig holes in the soil, then they gently placed small seedlings into the holes they created. With a teacher’s assistance, the children spread soil around the planters with small shovels and rakes. When we finished planting our flowers, the children watered the flower beds to nourish the freshly planted flowers.

Planting develops a care for the outdoor environment and caring for the natural world, and is a fun way to explore nature in the city. The children use their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination to dig with shovels and sprinkle the flowers with water using a watering can and spray bottle.
