Care of the Environment

From the very beginning of our Montessori journey, care of the environment plays a crucial role in our development. Maintaining a clean and orderly classroom is so important as it teaches children how to take care of the space around them, which then internalizes as appreciation for one’s environment. These activities can include sweeping, washing the table, how to water and care for plants and so much more. The child learns to follow a complex series of steps, strengthening their confidence and ability in other skills such as self-discipline, gross motor, and cognitive reasoning.  These skills can also be encouraged at home through simple chores like setting the table, dusting, organizing, and putting objects away. When children feel involved, they begin to understand they are part of a larger community, which builds on self-worth and empathy.
