Water Absorption

Our water absorption activity begins by placing the tray onto the table and pouring some water from the faucet into the jug. The child must learn to control their body and movements so as not to spill water from the jug onto the floor and surroundings. Once at the table, the child pours the water into the left bowl. Then, using the sponge, the child soaks up some water and squeezes it out into the right bowl. This movement is repeated until all the water has been transferred from the left bowl to the right one.  Squeezing and releasing a sponge strengthens the small muscles in the dominant hand and wrist while refining eye-hand coordination. The child also notices the scientific concept of absorption. Moving from left to right indirectly prepares the child for reading and writing.
