Planting Beans

This month, the Under 3 class have been discussing the lifecycle of a bean plant. We began our discussion at circle time with the lifecycle of a plant objects (as seen in the first picture).  We talked about the seed, seedling, and plant.  We also discussed what a seed needs in order for it to grow.  Then we were able to plant our own bean seeds. We observed the soil each day and waited patiently until our seedlings popped out.  The children were all very helpful by checking to see when the soil was dry and the seedlings needed watering. They took excellent care of each of the bean plants until they grew large enough for us to take them home to continue their care.  Engaging children with nature is important to be able to give them the opportunity to explore and understand the natural world and will support their respect and appreciation for the environment.
