The child begins the Prick-a-Shape activity by placing a sheet of paper on a corkboard. The sheet of paper has a geometric outline (ex. square, circle, triangle, pentagon, etc.) on which the child can prick using a variety of materials (thumbtacks, one large tack or a stipple pen). The child’s eye-hand coordination skills are used and refined during this Practical Life activity. After the shape has been pricked all around its outline, the child can feel the bumpy trail, hold up their sheet towards the light to see the pattern or delicately tear out the pattern from the surrounding area.
