In the North Casa community recently, we learned about the celebration of the Lunar New Year. As a class, we learned about some of the traditions of this cultural celebration through reading books. We learned that each year is represented by one of 12 animals and 2025 is the year of the snake. We also learned that the new year represents a time for new beginnings and fresh starts. To further our understanding, the children made lanterns which, traditionally, are lit to help lead the way forward, toward the future and to push aside the surrounding darkness. We also had the opportunity to dress in traditional garments that are often worn to celebrate the New Year. Happy New Year everyone, Kung-Hsi Fa-Ts’ai!
