Downtown Montessori City Place celebrated National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21st) with a visit from a special guest Michael, who taught us about Indigenous cultures. He brought a big gathering drum, sage, sweet grass, and a dream catcher. The children enjoyed playing the drum with Michael while singing songs in the Ojibway and Iroquois languages.
This experience also ties in with our efforts to emphasize the importance of community and social justice. In July, we will be hosting a fundraiser in support of the organization Native Women’s Resource Centre of Toronto (NWRCT), which strives to meet the needs of all Indigenous women and their children.
