In the next music classes Adriana and the Casa children will explore the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. They will be singing, playing the Montessori bells and Metallophone as well as moving to “Morning Mood” from Edvard Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 Op.46 using scarves to represent the metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly.
Children who have had lessons with the Montessori bells will play the Hungry Caterpillar chant while the class sings along. The story becomes interactive as Adriana narrates while the class sings the chant throughout the story as well as taking turns playing the Metallophone.
Adriana incorporates the idea of rhythm by asking the children to name the types of food the caterpillar ate and tapping the syllable on a drum, for example, Apple Pie= App-le Pie.
The children are engaged through music and movement, storytelling, and playing instruments.
