To begin this activity, children choose a paper cut-out of a body from a variety of skin tones. Once they have brought their materials to the table, they are free to decorate their paper silhouette by creating a face, making an outfit, etc. On coloured paper, the children use stencils to trace the pattern of clothing, like a dress or a combination of a top and bottom. Once the children have finished, they cut out their stenciled shapes and glue them onto the body. They then use a marker to draw the face. Casa children really enjoy this activity as it fosters their creative and spatial skills. They are also learning about human differences. Celebrating our cultural ethnicities is a big part of the Montessori environment.
