Today I’m going to tell you how I made this beautiful piece of art during my staycation. I personally think this art will be a great activity because it’s messy and fun, and it allows children (and adults) to be free with the supplies and just dump it all out. No skill needed at all. Just pour into puddles and tilt around a canvas. 🙂
Poured Paint Art
Materials Needed
⁃ Acrylic paints (dollar store)
⁃ Water (tap)
⁃ Plastic cups (dollar store)
⁃ Gloves (dollar store)
⁃ A canvas (dollar store)
⁃ An art surface (it’s gonna get messy)
Directions
Place your canvas on your art surface. Typically a table with a garbage bag taped over it or you may have a craft mat, etc. It’s best to have it elevated (I used two cans of the same height) so that the paint has somewhere to go rather than pooling on the sides on the table.
Now that your canvas is ready to become art, get your paints ready! Choose any colours you want, you can use them over again or only use 3 of the same! We have to thin the paint. Get your cups and fill each about 1/3 with paint and mix in 1/3 cup of water (the amounts may vary due to the size of the canvas). You’re ready to pour!
Start to pour the colours one at a time over top of each other anywhere on your canvas. Wait a few seconds to let the paint pool out before putting the next colour on top of it. There are no rules when it comes to art! Do this step over and over again until you’ve poured enough paint to cover the entire canvas (more can be added if not enough).
Here’s the extra fun part: pick up your canvas (hopefully your gloves are on) and start to move your puddle of coloured paints all over your blank spaces. Tilt it up, down, left, right, and all around. (If you don’t have enough paint to reach some areas, don’t be afraid to pool some colours in that area too). The shapes you get will never be the same as anybody else’s.
Once you have the finished shapes and swirls that you want, leave your art to dry! Just like you would at school, on your art rack 🙂
