The talking feather stick is used by Indigenous Peoples as a way to make sure that each person who wishes to speak is heard during important meetings or gatherings. The talking feather stick is symbolic of life, nature, and how we must respectively listen to each other in order to learn.
As an art project, the Casa East children created their own individual talking feather sticks to express important opinions or issues at home with their families.
As a community, we designed our own larger talking feather stick. We use this stick to ensure everyone who wishes to speak gets heard and ensures that everyone listens respectfully to their peers. We also discussed how everyone is important, that we are valued and most importantly, we are all unique.
