Watering Plants

Taking care of the environment is an important element of the Under 2 curriculum. One way in which the children can do this is by caring for the various plants in their classroom. The child in the photo is  exemplifying great care for her classroom environment and the natural elements within it through watering the plant.

Casa Observation Week

The prepared Montessori environment is a sight to behold.  In an authentic Montessori school, a Casa classroom is the stage on which boys and girls develop a sense of responsibility, cooperation and independence. The people on this stage however are not actors, they are children who are developing a legitimate love of learning. At scheduled times twice a year, parent-teacher conferences are held to discuss the children’s progress.  A week prior to these conferences, parents are invited to sign up for Observation Week. At this time, parents are able to observe the classroom during the work cycle.

Please click “Casa Observation Week” to read more and see what activity the child is working on!

Butterflies!

Praise Versus Encouragement

Maria Montessori believed that excessive, long-term praise can inhibit children from gaining independence because they rely heavily on the praise of those in positions of authority. As an alternative, encouragement can be empowering.
