Pumpkin and Gourd Exploration

We observed the different colours, shapes and sizes of pumpkins and gourds, and learned about the life cycles and names of the parts. As children explore, they become inquisitive of the natural environment around them, helping them to have a better understanding and respect for nature.

Transferring With Tongs

Here is a child in the Under 3 classroom using the transferring with tongs activity. This is one of many activities within the classroom that help to refine small movements of the hand; to exercise and develop hand eye-coordination; and to coordinate two hands working together.

Finger Painting

Finger painting is a creative activity that stimulates the child’s senses. This sensorial experience provides many benefits to the engaged child, such as mindfulness, self-regulation, the enhancement of fine motor skills, and observation. The child’s cognitive and language development can be enriched when talking about the colours, etc.

Caring For Plants

The children learn to take pride and responsibility in their Care of the Environment. One of the activities to promote this is caring for plants: learning how much water they need, watering, and gently dusting or misting their leaves.

Life Cycle of a Butterfly

Part of the Montessori curriculum is to have the children engage with and gain a deep respect and appreciation for nature and life. We incorporate this into the classroom by having the children experience and observe the life cycle of a butterfly in real time.

Celebrating Earth Day!

In the Under 3 room, we read a book about recycling and what kind of items we can put in a blue bin.  We also created seed bombs that contain wild flower seeds and biodegradable paper that they can plant in gardens and containers.

Experiencing Dramatic Play!

Engineering Science With Stephanie!
