Peek- A-Boo

Children under 2 love to play with scarves or hats, which they discover are a lot of fun to put on or take off. One of their favourite games to play using these items is peek-a-boo! Activities such as this promote social development and receptive language skills, as well as reinforce the concept of object permanence.

Snack in the Under 2 Classroom

The children in our Under 2 classroom are invited to share a snack at our child-sized table and chairs, building their social skills, grace and courtesy. Age appropriate dishes and utensils are used to help with self-serving and self-feeding, aiding in the growth of the children’s confidence and abilities.

Water Play!

During the summer months, the children enjoy plenty of water play such as scooping and pouring water, using cloths and sponges, and exploring the sprinkler. Water play provides an opportunity to enhance fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, concentration and social skills.

Dramatic play is a part of every child’s growth and development. It often occurs in the form of imitation, as most children do this in their process of adaptation. Thus, allowing them the opportunity to develop a sense of self and receptive language skills.

Painting!

Painting and printmaking create wonderful opportunities for infants to learn while they express themselves creatively. They enhance their tactile and sensory skills, experiment with cause and effect, and work on their palmar and pincer grasp, eye-hand coordination, and two hands working together in mid line.

Family Music Class

In celebration of families, we invited our families to join us for Music Class with Adriana. The parents had the opportunity to engage and participate in songs with musical instruments and puppets. The children seemed to enjoy sharing this experience with their parents!

Sign Language

In the Under 2 program, we practice sign language in our everyday interactions. The teachers use sign language to communicate with the children and vice versa. Sign language empowers the children with one another and provides ways to express their feelings, wants and needs.

Opening and Closing Containers

This activity provides children with the opportunity to use their developing hand-eye coordination, concentration and cognitive skills. These skills benefit the children as they become more independent and develop their sense of self and capabilities.
