The Eleventh Hour Mystery!

Horace the Elephant holds a party in the ‘Eleventh Hour’ story for his eleventh birthday, to which he invites his ten best friends to play eleven games and share in a feast that he has prepared. Unfortunately for Horace, someone has eaten the feast before the guests can enjoy the delicious food! It was up to our group of Casa children to decipher the clues and eliminate the suspects!

Washing Dishes!

Dishwashing is a multi-step activity that aids a child not only to learn how to wash dishes, but also develop concentration, hand-eye coordination, and independence. It also helps children to contribute to and care for their classroom environment.

Playdough!

Our infants seem to light up when playdough is offered as one of our sensory and fine motor activities. In addition to sensory exploration, pulling, rolling, poking and grabbing a fist-full of playdough all help to develop their fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination.

Our Giving Tree

This holiday season, we asked the families to help those in need with a donation of hats, mittens, gloves and scarves, which were donated to a local charity. This gave teachers an opportunity to demonstrate selfless acts, the power of giving, and how fortunate we are.

Celebrating Diwali

Cultural diversity is embraced in the Montessori environment by the acknowledgment of various cultural celebrations. For Diwali, the children enjoyed making a fireworks mural with various kinds of coloured paints. They also made individual firework art using patterned cupcake liners on black construction paper. We read about Diwali customs and string lights. We also lit diyas in the classroom to truly usher in this day!

Autumn Exploration

The children have noticed, explored, and collected the leaves and flowers in our playground and created artwork for our windows, so that we can see and appreciate the nature that we have been encountering in the Autumn.

Lifelong Music

It is very important that children are introduced to music early in life. Sound and vibration help develop an auditory sense and a sense of rhythm. While exploring with vocalization, they can also expand their vocabulary and language development.

Wooden Number Puzzle

In the Casa classroom, we have a variety of number related activities, such as this wooden number puzzle. As the numbers increase, the level of difficulty substantially increases. This challenges the mathematical mind, not only through number recognition and counting, but also through shape, construction and spatial awareness.
