In the event of an emergency (an urgent or pressing situation in which immediate action is required to ensure the safety of the children and adults in the childcare centre), fire drill or alarm, the following people will assume these responsibilities:
Under-2 Room, Under-3 Room, and Casa Rooms
Early Shifts: take children out, daily attendance, emergency cards, medication and perform a head count,
Middle Shifts: take children out, stay with children, count children and take first aid kit
Late Shifts: take children out, stay with children, count children in group
Roof Top Evacuation Procedure.
Exit either West Stairway to ground level court yard or East Stairway to ground level front entrance.
FOLLOW FIRE DRILL PROCEDURES
Kitchen Staff: will assist the Toddler group, turn off stove
Infant Staff: take emergency / evacuation bag
Manager / Designate: take all keys, master attendance, emergency cards, shut doors, check all groups and go over attendance, do final check of premises, speak to proper authorities, update all teachers/parents of situation.
Inform Director, file report.
All staff are to be extra vigilant in assisting people with disabilities or special needs.
ALWAYS STAY CALM AND WAIT FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE MANAGER/DESIGNATE
IN THE EVENT OF A CENTRE EVACUATION

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
- Every effort will be made by Management to contact families electronically. If this is not possible, the Manager/Designate and designated staff members will call families.
- Once an all clear has been conveyed to Management by the appropriate authorities, and it is safe to return inside or back to the centre, the group will be assembled and will enter the centre in the same fashion as they departed (see above).
- If the event is deemed a Serious Occurrence, that policy and subsequent form will be followed and posted
- Parents will be debriefed upon pick up and a letter written by Management, outlining the events, will be posted in the foyer for families within 24 hours.
- Resources will be made available by Management to support children and staff who may have experienced distress during the emergency:

FIRE DRILL/ALARM PROCEDURES
On the sounding of the fire alarm or whistle, proceed immediately as follows:
Under -2: South door hallway to Court yard
Alternative Exit: Staffroom/kitchen and exit door to court yard
Under-3: Stairway L to ground level to front entrance to Bremner Blvd.
Alternative Exit: Stairway E to ground level court yard
Montessori East & West: Stairway E to ground level court yard
Alternative Exit: Stairway L to ground level to front entrance to
Bremner Blvd.
Stay calm and direct the children to stop all activities and go to their room door. Proceed to the fire exits as assigned to their rooms.

DO NOT STOP FOR ANYTHING
All children are to be led out the fire exits by an adult at the head of the line. A second adult makes sure all the children are following and no one is left behind, while assisting everyone to their assigned fire doors.
All adults are to help the children remain quiet and calm
Stay in your groups. Take your emergency cards/attendance/medications and first aid kit. Once the groups are together, attendance is to be taken. The Manager or Designate will collect the daily office attendance, emergency cards and keys and shut doors. They will check all areas of the centre and proceed outside. Once outside, a head count will be conducted.
DO NOT RETURN TO THE BUILDING until an all clear has been given from the Manager/Designate.
