During the month of May, Casa celebrated Cinco de Mayo by making colourful sombreros, dancing to music from Mexico and making our very own guacamole. Using fresh ingredients, the children learned to measure, mix and grind. Happy Cinco de Mayo!

In exploring about ways to protect the Earth and conserve its resources, the Casa class started the Honeybee Initiative. The class explored different aspects regarding bees such as their function, importance and anatomy. We also did our part by planting sunflowers with each child caring for a plant. The children have been intrigued about space. We were very interested in learning about the Earth, stars, moon, meteors and meteorites, an asteroid belt, the dwarf planets, comets, universe, constellations, galaxies, each planet, and so much more.

The practice of yoga helps the children become aware of their body and strengthens their control of movement, thus encouraging the development of self-discipline. Of course, the best part for the children is having their own mat!

The bells are an exciting part of our Casa classroom! Children enjoy learning to play songs such as “Good Morning” or “Days of the Week”. There are endless possibilities for creative uses of the bells.

The sensorial area of our Casa classroom allows the children to manipulate and explore the materials using all of their senses. In this picture, the children are working with a combination of two activities that they have mastered individually, to recreate a pattern that is shown on the control card.

In French class, the children have been learning and expressing their feelings with Cheeba, our French teacher. The group asks each friend how they are (Comment ça va?) and each child answers with French words associated with these feelings.

During our discussions of respect, kindness, tolerance, unity and harmony, the children have looked at our differences and similarities between each other to celebrate our individual qualities. We are inspired by the Bob Marley song “One Love” with the words “One love when your hand reaches out to me. One heart when we touch a new world we will see.”

At Downtown Montessori Infinity Place, our on-site chef Dorothy, cooks a variety of wholesome, nutritious meals for our growing children. Adhering to Canada’s food guidelines, she follows a menu that is dietitian and “kid approved”!
