ViewThe flower arranging activity is part of the Practical Life area of the Montessori classroom. It focuses on the care and enhancement of the Under Three environment. This activity encourages cognitive development through sequencing of steps. There are many steps involved and each one builds upon the other.

ViewEasel drawing is an activity that the children enjoy. This activity allows them to express their creativity on a larger scale. It also promotes their fine motor skills. In this photo, the child is holding the marker in a palmer grasp as she makes detailed lines on the dry erase easel.
ViewSign language has always been an integral part of Montessori philosophy/education. Sign language allows for greater communication, deaf culture awareness and creates strong neurological pathways in the brain (memory, literacy and problem solving).

ViewThis activity consists of a variety of different containers that can be opened and closed. These materials allow the child to learn practical life skills necessary in everyday life, for example, opening or unscrewing lids. All the while, the child is developing fine motor skills, ability to concentrate, independence, and hand-eye coordination.
ViewOne of the ways we introduce, integrate, and celebrate events in our Casa community is through our Practical Life activities. Materials for activities such as transferring, lacing, gluing, and sifting are changed regularly to reflect the new season or upcoming celebrations.
