Picnic!

A child in our classroom told a story about going on a picnic with his family. This piqued the interest of the other children in the classroom who listened to the story, asked questions, and told their own stories of picnics and eating with their families. Another child asked if we could have a picnic on our playground at school, which other children echoed.

Butterflies!

We observe the life cycle of a butterfly from caterpillar, to chrysalis, to butterfly, right in our own classroom! While we watch for the butterflies to emerge, the children have the opportunity to do extended activities, such as a life cycle puzzle, a life cycle book with objects and matching cards, as well as drip art and prick a shape butterflies. Once all the butterflies emerge, we take them outside on a warm, sunny day and release them into nature. What an experience!

Earth Day!

Earth Day is a great time to learn about our planet and how we can contribute everyday to take care of it! We participated in Earth Day this year by using recycled newspaper to make biodegradable planters, filling those planters with soil, and carefully placing seeds in the soil.

Science Discovery

In our Under 3 Montessori classroom, we encourage the children to explore various aspects of science to encourage a sense of wonder and appreciation of the world around us. We conducted a science experiment involving baking soda, vinegar, and food colouring. As the ingredients mixed and reacted, the children watched in joy and astonishment as the colourful baking soda began to bubble and expand.
